The Wizards game : Reader says better without the Teachers

The Wizards game : Reader says better without the Teachers

Something for your readers to discuss:

What that Laura Grasso out there in center court with the Wizards Friday night? The very one who wrote the letter saying her teachers wouldn't participate in the event because they needed to spend their time researching for the contract negotiations. I swear that was her who got picked along with some lucky kids and other parents for the half-time show. I was hoping she would have the grace to bow out since she did her best to ruin the event. And when she didn't, I was hoping they wouldn't throw the ball to her and say something like "you won't play ball with you, we won't play with you."
Just saying...
By the way, the event was better without the teachers.

Hey - no teachers participates in the Wizards game and it was still a success. Everyone had a great time. Thank you DR Fishbein for showcasing your talents. You should participate every year.

New York Philharmonic just agreed to freeze their salaries for two years. Said they would do so to give the economy a chance to improve. Seems everyone but our teachers are willing to sacrifice in light of budget concerns.

Thanks to Dr. Fish....but now will he stand strong and with the BOE if changes are made?

The MINIMUM salary for the NY Philharmonic is $138,000 for a lot less hours than a Ridgewood teacher works.

Not the point 8:33. It is the awareness of the economic climate, budget constraints, and the reduced discretionary cash of their audience that I applaud. And, by the way, given that they work year round, including evenings and weekends, and practice countless hours it is really an apples and oranges comparison. I respect the teachers in Ridgewood and I would like to see a salary increase for ALL teachers. What I do not appreciate is the current behavior (ie the wizards game)and the "poor me" rhetoric. It is insensitive to the community they were hired to serve.

Laura Grasso attended the event as a parent. Her children attend Ridgewood schools.

Sayiing the NY Philharmonic work less hours than teachers is like saying teachers end their work day at 3:00 PM and don't work summers. C'mon! And look up the public record re: teachers salaries, some are making $100K +, and the working people in my household have not had raises in 2-4 years! Plenty of Americans have not had raises either. I love our teachers, think they care about the students, but have to question how much.
