The Council on Local Mandates decided Friday that the state’s new anti-bullying law is an unfunded mandate, and the Legislature must come up with money to fund its provisions if lawmakers want it to remain in effect.
The council’s ruling means that if the Legislature does not come up with the money by the time the council’s formal decision is issued – likely within 60 days – the law will expire, the council’s chairman, John Sweeney, said.
Officials from the small, rural Allamuchy district, which educates 440 students, argued that the anti-bullying law was an unfunded mandate, and sought $20,000 to cover the costs of compliance, including staff time for extra paperwork, training and counseling for victims.

I pray the adminsitrators at Cottage Place are taking courses, because in my opinion they are the best at bullying. They are experts. Who's "resigning", who's "retiring" even before their contracts are up. Got one coming up soon, don't ya? I know a little school that they are really good at bullying too. Taking or teaching the lessons on bullying? I'd vote for the ladder for the ladder, so good at that! No lesson needed!
We need to look at numerous other unfunded mandates imposed on our schools. I suspect that there are millions of dollars worth of savings that could be found in this area. This avenue of taxpayer relief requires further investigation!
Special Ed is the ultimate in expensive unfunded mandates.
We need to stop customizing rules and regulations and laws to fit every unfair situation in life. I don't need the federal, state or schools to regulate so much of my life. All these social and tax policies are costing us too much money.
12:15 I know, so why aren't Special Education parents demanded to have the previous Special Ed man employed, and to work harded to make jobs for all our special ed children.
